Outpatient Psychiatric Treatment for Children, Adolescents and Adults
At its core, Walden Psychiatric Associates approaches treatment from an “integrated” perspective. We incorporate a combination of medical science and nutritional and metabolic methodologies derived from evidence-based medicine into our patient-centered treatment. Each of us is biochemically unique, requiring different levels of vitamins and minerals for optimal function. These biochemical differences affect our brains, our moods, and subsequent behaviors. Taking this approach, we work with you from the “inside out,” using genetic and biomarker testing methods that will enhance and support recovery. We base our treatment on objectively measured problems found in the body, individualizing each patient’s care. While we do not ignore the possible role of medication in your recovery, we also focus on the nutritional and/or metabolic abnormalities that may be contributing to your problem. This holistic approach is able to successfully treat many patients suffering from a variety of symptoms and diagnoses, including:
- Eating Disorders
- Depression and other mood disorders
- Anxiety disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- First episode psychotic disorders
Genetic and Biomarker Testing
Genetics have the ability to affect how individuals will respond to differing medicinal interventions and how they will be metabolized. Not all medications affect patients the same way, despite their claims. Because of this, we see a lot of individuals enduring a roller coaster of trial and error with various medications, hoping to find the “right” one that will alleviate their symptoms. By incorporating genetic testing into our evaluation, our practitioners will have more information on your individual DNA and what medications may or may not be helpful. They will be more informed and better able to determine an optimized treatment plan – just for you.
Nutrition Counseling and Supplementation
We provide patient-centered, science-based care by analyzing each patient’s unique genetic, biochemical and nutritional status. It is important (in examining the human body as a complex network of interacting symptoms) that we do not forget to address nutrition as an integral factor in overall health. In recent years, a growing amount of research has been published indicating the effects that mineral and vitamin deficiencies can have on both the physical body and the mind. For this reason, our team of professionals test for several common mineral and vitamin deficiencies such as amino acids, fatty acids and vitamin D that can all impact mood and behavior.
Psychopharmacology / Medication Management
What we know about many mental illnesses is that there is often a strong associated biological component. As such, we support individuals who are interested in seeking psychopharmaceutic options to help minimize or alleviate unwanted symptoms.
Walden Psychiatric Associates does not accept health insurance. Outpatient treatment services are offered as private pay only. However, we do provide a receipt of services that may be submitted to insurance if you have a PPO plan for reimbursement. Lab tests are a separate fee; some labs do accept insurance. We’ll provide you with information on testing.
